Today I'm going to be talking through how I apply winged eyeliner. Black winged eyeliner and a bold lip are such a classic look, but mastering that killer flick on the eye can be a little tricky! Liquid eyeliner is something I think brings together any look, and I use it incredibly regularly, so I like to think I'm okay at applying it. I'm by no means an expert, but this is how I get that classic cat-eye winged eyeliner :)

| Before I start I thought I'd talk a little about the different kinds of liquid eyeliner you can get. Probably the easiest type to use are felt tip liners such as the one on the far left. These are essentially like drawing with a pen! In the middle we have the classic liquid liner brush which is soft and usually carries more liquidy product - this can be a little harder to control because of the softer design to the brush. On the right is a stiff point liner which doesn't have any give to it so is easier to control. However, this stiffness can catch on the sensitive skin around the eyes |

| Gel/cream liners are known for their incredible colour pay-off and long lasting power. They are very soft in texture and require a brush to apply. There are different kinds of brushes including short bristle brushes, longer, thinner brushes and angled flat brushes. I personally prefer the angled flat brush as you can draw many different shapes, lines and designs by using different parts of it On to the actual eye |

| Before you start, you may want to apply eye primer. I don't if I'm wearing eyeliner by itself as I feel it glides over bare skin better but this is personal preference! |

| To apply eyeliner I sit at my desk and rest my elbow on it. My hand rests on my cheek as I hold the liner to keep it steady and I move it by flexing my fingers. My first line starts around a centimetre in from the inner corner and I draw in short little movements towards the outer corner of my eye. It's sort of like sketching a line rather than drawing it in one single movement. I keep my eye closed during this part! |

| I then half-open my eye and draw from the inner corner in short sketchy movements until it joins the line I've already drawn |

| I then open my eye fully and extend the line into the outer corner of my eye, again using short sketchy movements. This ensures it's slow and steady and ensures I keep the line as straight as possible |

| I then extend the line further out into a flick. This part is purely up to you how you do it - you can tweak the angle of the flick, how curved it is, how long it is... I personally like quite a long, exaggerated flick that's relatively straight out from the eye. I draw it very lightly initially and then trace over it when I'm happy with it. A tip to mention here is that a cotton bud dipped in eye makeup remover or moistened in your mouth (icky, but effective!) is perfect for erasing the line if you make a mistake |

| Finally, I go over the entire line to thicken it as I quite like a bold line when using liquid eyeliner! I also thicken the flick by drawing underneath it, again using short sketchy movements |

| Finish it off with kohl on the waterline and lashings of mascara :) The important thing to remember is that the thickness of the line and the length of the flick and basically how in-your-face you want it to be is completely up to you! I like to accentuate my eyes which is why I go all out :P |

| Or use different colours! I love using bright eyeliner and then applying a dot of glitter eyeliner at the inner corner and on the underside of the flick to add some sparkle :) |
